We are sharing how to design a layered nursery with furnishings, nursery décor and accessories.
Do you ever look at photos of well designed nurseries and wonder how they appear effortless yet so pulled together and visually intriguing? That's the result of layering done right.
Layering simply means, adding on pieces to create depth and dimension while curating a look that's lived in.
So how then, do you create a layered nursery where all the design elements marry together beautifully?
Follow these nursery layering ideas to create a well designed baby's room.
1. LAYERING NURSERY FURNITURE
Choose a mix of complementary yet different furniture styles when picking furniture for the nursery. We like to keep the crib, dresser and nursery chair neutral but mix up the tones to keep the design from becoming flat and boring.
In a nursery design, there are three essential zones- sleeping, diapering and feeding. However, if you keep the nursery furniture spread out, not touching, the room will end up feeling rather cold and uncomfortable. So layer the nursery furniture to bring in more color, texture, materials and patterns. For example, place a side table next to the nursery chair and an ottoman in front of the nursery chair.

2. LAYERING RUGS IN THE NURSERY
A nursery rug is a great way to anchor and define the space while adding a pop of color and texture to the nursery. You can layer rugs in the nursery as well, but keep the rug colors complementary or tonal. Also, the rugs should be of different sizes. For example, you could lay down a large rectangular rug and layer with a cowhide rug, a round rug or even a smaller rectangular rug to break up the lines and add contrast.

3. LAYERING WINDOW TREATMENTS
Window treatments are the finishing touch most rooms need, yet so often an afterthought. Nursery window treatments are also necessary to control the amount of light in the nursery and to maintain a comfortable temperature for the baby. You can layer window treatments in the baby's room by pairing curtains with cordless blinds or shades. You'll add more depth and dimension to the space.

4. LAYERING NURSERY LIGHTING
A well designed nursery is always well lit and you are able to control the lighting to set the desired mood in the space. Layering the nursery light sources by using task, ambient and accent lighting is the way to achieve the perfect glow. For example, add a statement chandelier to the nursery and pair it with wall scones by the dresser and a floor lamp near the nursery chair, to create layers of lighting.

5. LAYERING ACCESSORIES IN THE NURSERY
Layering the baby's room with accessories is always fun and you'll see the space transformed from something that's a bit stuffy to lived in and authentic. Layer the nursery with meaningful prints, natural elements, throw pillows and blankets. Pick accessories that are special to you and adds personality, color, texture and dimension to the space while telling a story.
