HOW TO DECLUTTER THE NURSERY CLOSET

1. PULL EVERYTHING OUT OF THE CLOSET

The first step in decluttering the nursery closet is to pull everything out into one open space. It lets you take stock of what's there. You'll be surprised at how much stuff your little one has, from clothes to swaddles, blankets, and bedding.

2. SORT INTO CATEGORIES

Sort the items you pulled out of the baby's closet into piles of like-kind items. Begin by sorting into categories such as onesies, dresses, jumpsuits, swaddles, bedding, and more.

3. GET TRASH BAGS AND BINS

Have a few trash bags and bins on hand before you start decluttering. Among the piles of clothes you've pulled out of the closet will be items to keep, donate or store.

4. MAKE DECISIONS

Once you have a system in place- go through each of the piles and decide what items you'll want to keep, go in storage (for a future sibling perhaps), resell (maybe), donate, and what you want to let go.

5. CLEAN AND VACUUM THE CLOSET

Now that the baby's closet is empty-it's the perfect time to bring out the vacuum and the duster and start wiping down surfaces and cleaning the closet.

6. ADD NURSERY CLOSET ORGANIZERS

The key to an organized nursery closet is ensuring everything has a specific place. If you have a custom nursery closet with ample storage, you are good to go- otherwise, you might need some outside help in the form of bins, baskets, rods, shelf dividers, hanging cubbies, shoe storage, etc.

7. PLACE TWO STORAGE BINS

One of the best ways to avoid a cluttered nursery closet in the future is to plan. Place two storage bins in the closet, one for clothing the baby can't fit into just yet and one for clothing that no longer fits the baby. This can free up valuable storage space for clothes that are on regular rotation.

8. GET A KEEPSAKE BOX

Decluttering any space is hard, but it is even more complicated regarding baby things. So invest in lovely keepsake boxes to store the most meaningful items - birth announcements, cards, trinkets, first pair booties, bringing home outfits, etc. —instead of keeping them all over the place.
