WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SET UP A NURSERY : 11 ITEMS YOU'LL NEED TO SET UP A NURSERY
1. CRIB OR BASSINET
A crib or bassinet is one of the essential items to set up a nursery for your baby. Both options provide a safe and comfortable place for your baby to sleep and rest. The crib you choose will depend on the nursery style you are going with. When designing Hadley's timeless nursery, we incorporated a vintage-inspired crib, setting the tone for the whole design.
2. MATTRESS AND MATTRESS COVER
In addition to a crib or bassinet, you'll need a crib mattress and a mattress cover when setting up a nursery. Choose a mattress that meets safety standards and fits your crib correctly.
Additionally, you'll need a waterproof and breathable mattress cover to protect the mattress from spills, leaks, and other accidents. The cover should fit tightly around the mattress and be easy to remove and wash. Using a firm mattress and a waterproof cover can help keep your baby's sleeping environment safe and clean.
3. FITTED SHEETS
Fitted crib sheets are an essential item when setting up a nursery. When choosing crib sheets, ensure they fit snugly on the mattress to prevent any bunching or wrinkling that could pose a risk of suffocation. Consider purchasing a few sets of fitted sheets to have a clean one on hand.
4. DRESSER OR CHANGING TABLE
A dresser or changing table is essential when setting up a nursery for your baby. You'll need a designated space to store your baby's clothes, diapers, wipes, and other essentials, and a dresser or changing table can provide that space. As with the crib, the dresser you choose will depend on your planned nursery design.
5. NURSERY CHAIR
A nursery chair is another essential you'll need to set up a nursery. A comfortable and supportive chair can provide a cozy spot to feed, soothe, and bond with your baby. We went with the most beautiful and cozy boucle glider when we designed Ridley's nursery.
6. BABY MONITOR
A baby monitor allows you to keep an eye and ear on your baby from another room, providing peace of mind and ensuring your baby's safety. There are different types of baby monitors available, including audio-only, video, and smart monitors that connect to your smartphone or tablet.
7. DIAPER PAIL AND LINERS
What else do you need to set up a nursery? A diaper pail of course! It provides a convenient and hygienic way to dispose of dirty diapers, helping to keep the nursery clean and odor-free.
8. HUMIDFIER OR AIR PURIFIER
A humidifier or air purifier can be helpful when setting up a nursery for your baby. A humidifier can add moisture to the air, which can help relieve dry skin, congestion, and other respiratory symptoms. An air purifier can help remove allergens, dust, and other pollutants from the air, which can help reduce the risk of allergies and asthma.
9. SOUND MACHINE
A sound machine can provide soothing sounds that can help your baby fall asleep and stay asleep. There are different types of sound machines available, including those that play white noise, nature sounds, lullabies, and other calming sounds.
10. BLACKOUT CURTAINS
Blackout curtains block out light, which can be especially useful for daytime naps or babies sensitive to light when sleeping. In addition to blocking out light, blackout curtains can also help insulate the room, keeping it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. When we designed Bennett Nursery, we chose beautiful gray velvet blackout curtains that elevated the design while helping create a comfortable space.
11. STORAGE SOLUTIONS
Storage solutions can be helpful when setting up a nursery for your baby. Babies come with a lot of stuff, from clothes and diapers to toys and books, and having a place to store everything can help keep the nursery organized and clutter-free. When designing Leonor's nursery, we added a variety of storage solutions - nursery dresser, storage cabinet, and storage baskets so there's ample storage to organize her nursery.
