We are going to share how to set up a breastfeeding station in the nursery that is super functional and optimal, to make breastfeeding and caring for your baby easier.
Moms will tell you that breastfeeding is hard emotionally and physically. But even with all the challenges, breastfeeding is so rewarding.
There are certain things that will help make breastfeeding somewhat easier and creating a breastfeeding station is certainly at the top of our list.

BREASTFEEDING STATION MUST HAVES
1. NURSERY CHAIR
You'll spend so much time sitting on this chair so pick one that is super comfortable. A glider or a rocking chair will be the best option for the breastfeeding chair. A nursery chair lets you rock back and forth and can help calm the baby. They are also so much more comfortable to sit on than a regular armchair.
2. OTTOMAN/ FOOTSTOOL
Much like the nursery chair, an ottoman or footstool is another important item for the breastfeeding station. When breastfeeding your baby, you'll need to position the baby correctly so it's comfortable for you and the baby. A footstool will help you to lift your lap and get baby closer to you.
3. SIDE TABLE
When breastfeeding, you'll be sipping water a LOT and having a side table near the nursery chair allows you to keep a bottle of water as well as other essentials like a nipple cream and phone.
4. BREASTFEEDING BASKET
A breastfeeding station also needs all of the breastfeeding essentials. In a previous post we shared the breastfeeding essentials you'll need to gather. So place all of those essentials in a basket and keep it close to the nursery chair for easy access. Here are the essentials you'll need:
SOFTSHELLS: Softshells will bring you much needed relief from nipple soreness, engorgement or an inverted nipple.
BREAST THERAPY GEL PACKS: Breast therapy gel packs will provide relief for common breastfeeding challenges such as relieving engorgement or clogged ducts.
BREAST PADS: Extra absorbent breast pads will help with leaky breasts.
NIPPLE CREAM: Nipple cream to soothe or protect sore nipples.
HAAKAA: Honestly, a Haakaa is a gamechanger when it comes to breastfeeding. When you are nursing the baby on one breast, simply suction the Haakaa pump to your other breast and let the pump do the work for you. Read more here.
5. LIGHTING
A nursing night light will help you navigate the darkness at night without waking everyone else in the house up.
6.NURSING PILLOW
A good nursing pillow will help you position the baby correctly so the baby can latch on properly as well as allow you to be in the optimal ergonomic position thus preventing aches and pains. Read this post of our picks for best nursing pillows.
7.PHONE CHARGER
Since you'll spend quite a bit of time at the breastfeeding station, it totally makes sense to keep an extra phone charger close by!
BREASTFEEDING STATION IDEAS
When setting up your breastfeeding station, make sure it's away from windows or the ac vent. Ideally, the breastfeeding station should be close to the crib and the changing station. For nursery layout options, read this post.
