First of all, congratulations! You've made it to the second trimester. For most of you, the second trimester will be the best stage.
Hopefully, you are over your morning sickness and tiredness, now eagerly looking forward to preparing for baby's arrival.
So what do you need to do in your second trimester? If we do this right, you'll want to check things off of your pregnancy to-do list before you're in the third trimester when you feel tired, and too sore to do much.
So here is our second trimester to do list to help you prepare for the arrival of your little one.
1. TALK ABOUT YOUR FINANCES AND START BUILDING A BUDGET
One of the most important things to take care of during your second trimester is to understand your finaces and start building a budget.
The sooner you can get a good understanding of where you stand financially, the financial implications of going on maternity leave, added childcare costs and other baby related expenses, you'll be able to better plan for your family's future.
2.PLAN THE BABY SHOWER
You know, you've been thinking about this for a while! So talk to mom, sister or close friends and make some decisions on the baby shower.
You'll need to decide who will host the baby shower, the baby shower theme, venue and of course, the guest list.
Don't forget to download our Baby Shower Checklist to make sure you haven't missed a thing and to keep you on track.
3.LOOK FOR BIRTHING CLASSSES
Birthing classes are an awesome way to help you prepare for labor and birth. You'll need to decide between live classes or virtual classes. Your doctor will be able to provide you with a list of classes near you.
4. CREATE YOUR BABY REGISTRY
A baby registry is a great way to keep you and your well wishers focused on what you really need for the baby.
While there are many places where you can create a baby registry, we love the convenience and the wide range of products available through the Amazon Baby Registry.
Definitely check it out and don't forget to sign up to receive their FREE welcome box! And here is our updated baby registry list 2020 and it should help guide you as you add products to your registry.
5.KEEP UP WITH YOUR EXERCISES
It's easy to get distracted or not be motivated to get up and moving. After all, you do get tired easily.
But the thing is, if you are able to, regular gentle exercise is great for you and the baby. Perhaps, a walk, swim or yoga might interest you.
6.BONDING WITH THE BABY
Did you know that your baby can hear sounds outside of the womb starting around 23 weeks? So take some time out of your daily routine to talk, read or sing to the baby.
7.IDENTIFY BABY NAMES
It's time to start thinking about baby names and making a shortlist of names that interests you.
Picking a name can be difficult for some parents so the sooner you start this process, the more time you'll have to get inspired.
8.BUY MATERNITY CLOTHES
During the second trimester, you might notice that your pre pregnancy clothes don't fit well or just uncomfortable.
Maybe, it's time to do a bit of maternity clothes shopping then.
When shopping for maternity clothes, there are a few essentials that you'll want to get to dress your bump such as maternity jeans, tanks, bras and loungewear.
9.PLAN A BABYMOON
The second trimester is simply the best time to have a babymoon. You should be feeling much better after the morning sickness of the first trimester.
This is a great time to take a babymoon and enjoy each other before you become parents.
10.PLAN BABY'S NURSERY
Designing baby's nursery is one of the most exciting things to do as you eagerly wait for baby's arrival. There's furniture to pick, color schemes to choose and special details to add to make baby's nursery a delightful space.
11.FIND OUT BABY'S GENDER or not?
It's decision time! Do you want to know baby's gender or would you rather be surprised? It's totally up to you and you know what's best!
12.GENDER REVEAL
So if you decided you'll rather be surprised and not know baby's gender, skip ahead. Otherwise, you'll want to spend some time planning the gender reveal.
Do you want to have a gender reveal party or a photoshoot? Options are endless!
13.DO KEGELS
You'll want to start doing kegel exercises. Kegels are simple exercises to help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. The exercises will keep the muscles of the vagina toned and prevent urine leakage after you have given birth.
14.START USING A STRETCH MARK CREAM
If you haven't started already, you should definitely start using a stretch mark cream to prevent the apprearance of stretch marks and improve skins elasticity.
15. schedule the materity photoshoot
If you are planning on having a maternity photoshoot, now is the time to schedule one.
Though many parents-to-be are eager to capture this unique and special time in their lives through the lens of a professional photographer you can also totally do one at home. Check out these amazing maternity photo shoot ideas at home.
16. GET A BABY BOOK
In a previous post, on things to do during the first trimester, we discussed getting a pregnancy planner to help keep you focused on the priorities that needed to be sorted out before baby's arrival. Also, getting a pregnancy journal to start documenting the stages of your pregnancy. This is something you will truly cherish down the road as you look back at this most wonderous time!
During the second trimester, you should shop for a baby memory book to record everything from baby's birth story, footprints/ handprints, milestones and celebrate baby's development each month.
